Meet the Board

The current board members saw a need in our school and community and came together to create the

Friends of Melrose Elementary Arts and Sciences Council. 

Sara Hebert

President

Sara has been teaching kindergarten in Putnam County since 2011.

Sara is also a Girl Scout Troop Mentor, a parent of a Melrose Mustang, Secretary of Historic Melrose Inc., and attended Melrose Elementary as a child.

Bethany Parker

Vice President

Bethany has been teaching since 2003. Bethany recently accepted a position with the Alachua County School District as a STEM teacher for Stephen Foster Elementary School but continues to make an impact in Melrose.

Sarah Mixon

Treasurer

Sarah is a parent of a Melrose Mustang and an instructor for the Natural Science Department at Santa Fe College. She is also the Coordinator for a cross-disciplinary laboratory in the Biology Department at the University of Florida.  

Aimee Olmsted

Secretary

Aimee has been supporting the MES family for many years, both as a substitute and a parent volunteer. Past projects include: MES garden, creation of outside classroom space, Knight Readers program, Robotic Club and numerous school art projects . With a background in education, she has a deep understanding of the importance of implementing science and the arts into the school curriculum.  Although both of her children are now graduates of MES, Aimee still enjoys her time with the “little ones” and is honored to be a part of this dedicated group of officers.

Board Positions

Friends of MES Bylaws specify any member may run for a position on the board. Requirements include:

- Candidate must attend 75% of previous year's general meetings. 

- Candidate must submit, in writing, intent to campaign for a desired position.
